The name of the album is very symbolic and precious. Fire Lilies are among the first flowers to surface after a fynbos fire. They are the phoenix of flowers…a symbol of beauty rising from the ashes…this album is a declaration of victory, redemption and beauty restored. You can download the lyrics on the right. I’ve included a bit of background on each song for your interest.

Glowing on the Water

…In the first verse of this song i introduce the imagery of myself as a glow upon the water. I suppose the symbolism would be that I see myself as a reflection of the sun/son (His glory) out of the water (His Spirit). There’s a reminder here not to dwell on the past (we need to “forget how to rewind”) and to focus on what God is revealing in these days…the unspoken dreams He has put in our hearts, those that tie into the original plans and purposes He had for our lives at the beginning of creation, and the lies that have kept those dreams dormant and unfulfilled.

I then speak of knowing where I am ultimately going…Home to Him, but that my compass (my capacity to hear His voice and follow His direction) here on earth got broken somehow (brokenness/heartache/sin will do that to you 🙂
The second verse speaks of a yearning for myself…for all of us to move fully into who He created us to be. We have all been marked (made in His image) and in Him every wrong thing is made right.

The bridge refers to a habit of being led around by feelings and of being unwise and sharing our hearts with the wrong people. Matthew 7:6 says “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces” and Proverbs 4:23 says “Above all else, guard your heart for everything you do flows from it”. A wounded heart and a loss of vision are the result of not following this direction (“But the way that it leads causes my heart to bleed ‘til i can’t see)

The final verse is a statement of relief that Jesus is with us and an expression of the desire to be used for His glory…YEAH!
