The name of the album is very symbolic and precious. Fire Lilies are among the first flowers to surface after a fynbos fire. They are the phoenix of flowers…a symbol of beauty rising from the ashes…this album is a declaration of victory, redemption and beauty restored. You can download the lyrics on the right. I’ve included a bit of background on each song for your interest.

Above the Bar

…I wrote this song for my groovy husband, Jonathan. He has faced some huge challenges in his life but his outlook remains positive and he pretty much overflows with awesomeness. The lyrics reflect my admiration and respect for him, as well as my gratitude for the encouragement and lightheartedness he brings when i am facing my own challenges. The song is also a declaration of my support for him and my commitment to seeing him reach his full potential and realize his many dreams (He is very passionate about many things and i often refer to him as my walking encyclopaedia)…

…”Redeemed” is another one of my favourite songs…a real testimony song of how God rescued me out of darkness. I think the lyrics speak for themselves but absolutely welcome any questions you may have. The scripture that puts it best for me is Psalm 40:1-3:

I waited patiently for the Lord;
    he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
    out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
    and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
    a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
    and put their trust in him…

Silver Linings

…This is an older song…it was written again from a place of gratitude for redemption. I especially like the line “every moment that you had my back, when i wondered off the beaten track” because it points to God’s protection in the times where i’ve chosen to take risk and follow a wilder path…
